Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou - Draa Valley - Zagora
Departure from Marrakech in the morning, crossing the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi N'Tichka Pass. Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, where you will enjoy a guided visit of the ancient ksar, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. This remarkable fortified village is one of Morocco's most iconic attractions and has served as a filming location for Gladiator, The Mummy, and Lawrence of Arabia. Afterwards, head to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the 'Hollywood of Africa,' where you visit the historic Taourirt Kasbah and pass by the Atlas Film Studios. The journey continues through the lush Draa Valley, via Agdz, offering stunning views of palm groves and traditional villages. Dinner and overnight stay in a charming riad in Zagora.
Day 2: Zagora - Tamegroute - Mhamid El Ghizlane - Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, depart towards Mhamid, the gateway to the Sahara. On the way, stop in Tamegroute, known for its historic Quranic library, underground kasbah, and traditional green pottery workshops. Upon arrival in Mhamid, where the Draa River disappears underground and the paved road ends, enjoy lunch at a typical Moroccan restaurant. In the afternoon, begin the off-road adventure toward the majestic dunes of Erg Chegaga, the largest dunes in Morocco. Upon arrival at the desert camp (bivouac), enjoy a camel ride at sunset across the golden dunes. Dinner and overnight in a traditional Berber tent or under the stars, with Berber music, drumming, and a campfire experience.
Day 3: Off-Road - Lake Iriki - Paris-Dakar Route - Foum Zguid - Taznakht - Marrakech
Early morning wake-up to witness the breathtaking sunrise from the top of the dunes. After breakfast (around 8:00 AM), departure across the desert by 4x4 vehicle. Cross the vast dried lake of Iriki and follow part of the historic Paris-Dakar rally route. After approximately three hours of off-road driving, reach the paved road near Foum Zguid, where you stop for refreshments. Continue to Taznakht, a village renowned for its authentic Berber carpets, where lunch will be served. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
