This 4-day and 3-night private desert tour takes you from Marrakech deep into the Sahara and back. Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech to Boumalne Dades
Begin your journey with a morning departure from Marrakech at 9:00 AM, traveling through the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi N'Tichka Pass. Enjoy breathtaking landscapes and traditional Berber villages along the way before arriving at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its remarkable earthen architecture and cinematic history, having featured in Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring this historic site and enjoying lunch, continue to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the 'Hollywood of Africa.' The journey then proceeds through the palm groves of Skoura and the Valley of the Roses, ending at your hotel near the spectacular Dades Canyons in Boumalne Dades.
Day 2: Boumalne Dades - Tinghir - Merzouga
After breakfast, depart towards the oasis town of Tinghir to explore its lush palm groves and the breathtaking Todra Gorges, famous for their towering limestone cliffs. Continue to Tinejdad, then onward to Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops and date market, and historically associated with Morocco's ruling dynasty. By late afternoon, arrive in Merzouga, located on the edge of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. Dinner and overnight stay in a luxury desert camp featuring private tents with en-suite bathrooms, just steps away from the golden dunes.
Day 3: Merzouga: Desert Exploration & Sunset Camel Trek
After breakfast and the opportunity to admire the sunrise over the dunes, your driver will take you on an exploration tour around Merzouga. Discover the desert landscapes, visit former mining sites, and continue to the village of Khamlia, where you will meet local nomadic families and enjoy traditional Gnawa music and hospitality. You may choose to have lunch at a selected restaurant in Merzouga, with the option of relaxing by a swimming pool. In the afternoon, embark on a camel trek across the dunes of Erg Chebbi to witness a spectacular sunset. Return to your luxury desert camp for dinner and an evening of local music and entertainment under the stars.
Day 4: Merzouga to Marrakech
Wake early to experience one last unforgettable sunrise over the dunes before departing for Marrakech. The journey includes a stop in Rissani to visit local fossil workshops, followed by a drive toward Agdez, known as the gateway to the Draa Valley and its vast palm groves. A lunch stop will be made in Ouarzazate before continuing through the High Atlas Mountains back to Marrakech. Arrival in Marrakech is scheduled for the late afternoon, marking the end of your memorable desert adventure.
